Mary Ellen also known as Nena, was called to her forever home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 15 due to Covid 19.
She was a beloved Daughter, Sister, Mother, Aunt and Nana. She was born in Visalia, CA. She later moved to Bakersfield where she lived her life. She took great pride in her cooking, and it had to be from scratch. She wouldn’t give her recipes to just anyone.
She made the Best Enchiladas, and would beam with joy and watch us as we would enjoy them. We looked forward to eating her tamales, they were simply the best! She loved to go shopping, but never bought much. She would say, “I only buy what I need.” She enjoyed working on word search books. Her favorite color was purple, and she read her bible and spent time with Jesus every day.
Her friend of over 45 years, Maria, was as close as a sister. They enjoyed each other’s company and having lunch out.
The young man that had her heart was her great grandson Jason. Any time she mentioned his name she would smile. Jason brought out the best in her, he got her to take a selfie and she never allowed her picture to be taken. They spent many hours talking and laughing.
She was the oldest of Nine children. She is survived by her brothers Gilbert, Robert and Michael and sisters Linda and Bonnie. And her three children Kathryn, Pete and Janice. Eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Bernie and Vera. Brothers Richard, Bernie and Carl.
In honor of her last wishes, she chose not to have a Memorial or Service and decided on Cremation.
